An opportunity has arisen for Senior Site Engineer to perform a technical, organisational and supervisory role in construction. In addition to their technical role, they work as part of the site management team, sharing responsibility for site security and health and safety. The Senior Site Engineer acts as the main technical adviser for the site engineers and subcontractors on a construction site. The role will also include both upward and downward reporting within Highways and the client at all times providing clear and precise direction at all levels. 

They must be able to competently understand all civil engineering drawings and be able to spot potential areas either for error or for potential gain, programme and cost. They must be conversant in basic setting out and surveying techniques.

Also working with the client to ensure that the key deliverables at the relevant stage of the project are administered to the highest quality.  The Senior Site Engineer will help to ensure that the proper interpretation of the project is established and the delivered scheme meets and exceeds the expectations of the client and Highways.

What you’ll be doing day to day 

* To ensure Health & Safety are of paramount importance 
* To regularly review project status ensuring all options have been considered and evaluated to improve construction performance.
* Ensure commercial challenge at all times
* Co-ordinating and delegating the work load among the Setting Out Engineers 
* Co-ordination of all site control and Surveying on the site.
* Procuring and maintaining surveying and setting out equipment
* Daily co-ordination and analysis of survey / settlement and monitoring results. Distribution of the results to all stakeholders, implementing contingency plans if necessary.
* Checking and distribution of drawings / documents and quantities and ensuring that any calculations are accurate for the works 
* Helping with the selection and procurement of materials for use in the construction and their value 
* Planning the work and efficiently organising site teams in order to meet an agreed programme of deadlines 
* Liaising with any consultants and / or sub-contractors engaged in the project 
* Attending regular meetings with clients and consultants, and keeping them informed of progress 
* Supervising and monitoring the site labour force and monitoring the work of any subcontractors 
* Overseeing quality control, ensuring all Inspection and test forms are completed and recorded in a timely manner.
* Resolving any unexpected technical difficulties, and other problems that may occur 
* Promote Near Miss and Positive Intervention reporting
* Engage with Supply Chain
* Quality Assurance 
* Development of strong team working relationships 
* Helping to ensure all project KPI`s and KPM`s are achieved
* Upload documentation as and when necessary in line with business requirements to Cfolders to ensure latest documentation is always available
* Ensuring compliance to NMCN & STW procedures through weekly returns where required
* Cost risk management and early identification of problematic issues on site
* Bring innovative ideas

The experience we’re looking for in a candidate

* An industry applicable qualification
* Heavy civil engineering experience is essential 
* Demonstrable experience of service avoidance on site
* Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
* Working knowledge of Microsoft packages
* Self-motivation
* Be able to organise yourself and others workload
* Be able to work in a strong team environment
* Be proactive in your approach
* An excellent communicator
* Experience in working within Highways
