Product Development Chemist required, based in Manchester. Requiring demonstrable experience of developing adhesive, coating, elastomer or sealant products, as well as working closely with manufacturing and customers for scale up, trials and full product commercialisation.

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

SRG is working with an exciting new business in Manchester who are looking to hire a Product Development Chemist to join their technical team. Part of a global PLC, this new venture will be developing custom-made adhesives and associated products for a range of customers in the labelling, print and packaging industries. The role will involve working closely with customers to understand technical requirements and capabilities, then driving the development cycle right through to product commercialisation. The ideal candidate will have proven experience of taking development projects from conception to commercial manufacture, particularly with CASE products.

Role / Description

Working with the business development managers and new customers to qualify and realise custom requirements for hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesive products
Conducting formulation and testing of new products in the laboratory, with consideration of raw materials and manufacturability
Collaborating with 3rd party manufacturers to facilitate scale up and support production trials for commercialisation
Working closely with suppliers to explore new technologies and raw material alternatives
Providing ongoing technical support to customers regarding new product introduction, troubleshooting and quality complaints
Producing accurate records and reports of development work for progress and project updates

Requirements

Minimum degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Materials Science
Hands on experience developing coating, adhesive, sealant or elastomer products
Demonstrable experience of developing technical customer relationships
Good knowledge of relevant raw materials - styrenes, block copolymers, acrylates, polyolefins, polyesters, polyamides, rosin esters, silicones, nitriles
Good commercial acumen, able to consider all stages of the development cycle
Able to adapt priorities and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
