This role will be based in Corby/Kettering/Wellingborough

Overall Purpose of the Post

This service will be located in services to children and young people who are or have been looked after and /or subject to court proceedings. It will be part of the Looked After Service.
The key objective of the service is to assess parents and support children on their own families and where this is not possible to achieve as soon as possible permanent alternative arrangements
Contact is a key element in the legal proceedings which achieve permanent and will be the subject of recommendations and conditions once permanence has been achieved.Principal Responsibilities

To Receive instructions from the contact coordinator or with his/her agreement the case accountable social worker on the requirements of a contact or serios of contacts to be arranged this includes understanding the specific requirements of the contact such as the level of the supervision required.
To make practical arrangements, including:-
Liaison with all those who will be participating in the contact and any other relevant parties such as those providing venue
Ensuring transport is in place and if necessary providing it, in particular but not exclusively for children/young peoples whose carers are not in a position to do so.
Meeting all parties at the beginning of each session and facilitating appropriate endings.
To provide the required level of supervision which would range from leaving the contact to go ahead unsupervised to strict levels of supervision and then to observe the contact session and record its content. Where necessary, to intervene in the contact. Purposes of contact can vary, the contact supervisor's role may be exclusively observation and assessment intervening only to be prevent harm to child/ren. Alternatively the contact supervisor may be requested to actively assist on helping the contact go well.
To produce a report of contact following the contact session. The level of detail, format and content of this report will be determined in relation to each contact or serios of contact sessions. This could be in the form of feedback to the social worker and a brief record on the electronic database (CareFirst) it may need to be more details, including in the form of a report for the social worker, relevant panels or court. The contact supervisor may need to produce reports on a serious of contacts sessions as well as a description of their content. This will assist with the maintenance of effective administrative record within directorate policies and legislative requirement that all such records are up to date.
To contribute to reviews, planning and other relevant meetings to support full compliance with care plans. Demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people's behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
The contact supervisor may need to attend court to give evidence and assist the social workers within court arena
To also contribute to the Parenting assessment of family in connection with the allocated Social Worker/Team.
Contact workers would may also undertake direct work with children to inform their Care plans for the future to improve outcomes for the children.
To achieve 7 and 8 above, supervisors will need to work outside of regular hours as will as undertake home visits to familiesPersonal Specifications

Education and Qualifications

GCSE Level or equivalent education NVQ3

Experience and Knowledge

Knowledge of Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation

Mainstream assessment skills in Children development and family functioning

Experience of working in similar environment

Attributes
